Modern Farm House

Napa County, California - Completed in 2003 - $1,100,000

This project was a radical renovation of a spec quality house into a high quality, highly detailed home. On the exterior is the classic farm building arrangement; white house, steel sheathed silo and red barn. Inside, instead of the small compartmentalized spaces we opened up all the small rooms into a large living space using steel beams, pipes and columns for supports. The front entry now is a two story gallery. A high end German cabinetry system was installed in the kitchen giving it a clean, modern look. A new stairway made of cherry wood and steel makes a dramatic entry focal point and leads up to the second story.

On the second level a master suite was created and a master bathroom was added with limestone and pear wood finishes. The addition of the master bath to the second story created a covered porch on the south side of the dinning room allowing for a sheltered eating area with views of the garden.

The silo is actually a reading room off the master suite. The barn houses three cars, one tractor and a caretaker dwelling.
